Smile, Dysmenorrhea, and other updates
That title is a little wild, is it not?
Well, never fear, you don’t have to hear about me grinning through period pain, because “Smile” and “Dysmenorrhea” are both short stories that got published within a few days of each other! And both are available for free on these here interwebs.
I will link to them in this post and then I’m going to write blog posts about each of them with excerpts and all that, but if you’re reading this, I suggest just reading the stories.
You can find “Smile” on Timber Ghost Press’ site here.
You can find “Dysmenorrhea” on Horrific Scribblings’ site here.
Both publishers are small presses, so while you’re on their websites, please be sure to check out their other publications. Small and independent presses can always use support!
Besides getting two short stories unexpectedly published in one month, I have had some adventures in the literary world lately.
I finished a novel that I am shopping around to agents. I would love to connect with a traditional publisher if at all possible. But if not, rest assured that I will continue to write.
I did a reading at a friend’s variety show. Afterwards, I thought about it and realized that I hadn’t done a reading since I was nine or ten, attending open mic poetry readings with my mom.
What was I reading? I’m glad you asked. I read my flash fiction piece “Smile.” The crowd was very kind, and I got some great feedback.
I am working on another novel (of course). This one has witches, poltergeists, and female rage. So, that’s exciting. I am also working on a few more short stories. I want to get some done before I dive too deep into my novel, which is turning out to need a lot more character development than I expected, as well as some world-building, even though it is contemporary. So, I’m going slow and building my foundations before I tackle the meat of the book.
That’s it from me! I’ll be back on the blog soon to share some snippets from the recent releases. But don’t wait, just go read them and enjoy!
